This is one of the classic open-pollinated watermelons suited to short season gardening! Pink red flesh, 6-10 lbs, sweet juicy flavour, crisp flesh. Hard rind, not easily damaged, ripens to a very dark green-black. Compact vines produce plenty of fruit, not too seedy. Reliable producer in 80+ days. Introduced in 1955. Start seeds indoors 3-4 weeks prior to last frost, or direct seed into warm soil after the last frost. Plant in hills 3-4′ apart. Plants will thrive with regular watering, good compost, and mulch.
